Story
Ruth's journey began in Oceana County schools and took her to Mercy Hospital and Sanitorium in Manistee in 1943, where she trained as a practical nurse. Her dedication to nursing led her to work at both Oceana and Shelby Hospitals, and later as an office nurse for Dr. Flint in Hart. Later on, she joined Mercy Hospital in Muskegon where she worked for the remainder of her career. In honor of Ruth's profound love for nursing, her family and friends established the Ruth Jean Oomen Nursing Scholarship. This scholarship aims to support a graduating senior from Hart in pursuing their passion for nursing, echoing Ruth's own journey and commitment to the profession.
