Story
Janie Denman was 61 years old when she passed away from cancer in August, 2018. Janie resided with her husband Charlie in Sarasota, Florida and Stony Lake, Michigan. Janie attended Purdue University for a degree in Civil Engineering and earned her MBA from the University of Michigan, where she was recognized as one of the university’s “Notable Alumni.” Janie’s remarkable professional career in finance, human resources and marketing provided her opportunities to live in California, France and Illinois. Her experience included work with many Fortune 500 companies. Janie’s community activities extended from Florida to Michigan. In Michigan she was on the Board of the Stony Lake Property Owners Association and was co-chair of the Pentwater Yacht Club Flower Committee. Serving as one of the founders of the Stony Lake Sparkler was one of her proudest accomplishments. She was also a volunteer with the Trinity Lutheran Food Panty, COVE, Women Who Care, and the Pentwater Arts Council. Janie’s connections to the Pentwater Monday Knitter and her Stony Lake neighbors were the primary source of her West Michigan friendships. Janie helped organize the knitter’s contribution to the br-A-rt project sponsored by the Arts Council with the proceeds of the project going to support cancer research. During her cancer treatments in Michigan, the knitters made an afghan to keep her warm during chemo therapy. The knitters and the neighbors provided food and support not only for her body but also her spirit. Above and beyond this impressive list of amazing accomplishments, the things that stand out above all as her legacy are Janie’s integrity, graciousness, kindness, sparkling smile and generous heart.
