Story
Originally from Hilversum, Netherlands, Franciscus Feuerstein was inspired by the different approach to education he experienced in his home country. Frans, the owner of two chemical processing businesses, and his wife, Ruth, established this scholarship to support area students pursuing technical-related careers, a path with more visibility in the Netherlands. After serving in the U.S. Army, Frans established his businesses in southwestern Michigan. He and Ruth moved to Pentwater after their retirement, quickly becoming a part of the community. Frans was an avid sailor and member of the Pentwater Yacht Club. Ruth and Frans hoped to inspire local students to pursue their education, exploring careers they might not yet be aware of, so that they may find the same career fulfillment that Frans experienced. Frans, known for always smiling and his sunny composure, has since passed. Ruth, a former Community Foundation for Oceana County board trustee, continues their scholarship in his memory.
