Story
Growing up in Hart, Bert Stevens was active in caring for his community. While pursuing a career in retail, Bert served as treasurer of the Municipal Building Association, the Hart Board of Review, and the city’s county board. He was a member of the local Chamber of Commerce, the Oceana Historical Society, and many other organizations. Bert began a blood bank during World War II to further help in a time of need. He captured rare footage of sunken ships in Lake Michigan in his early life and was a filmmaker in his youth. The community remembers his contributions to Oceana County as a resident, a joyful neighbor, and friend. The Bert Stevens scholarship celebrates his 36-year dedication as the President and rejuvenator of the Oceana County Fair by benefiting area graduating seniors who have participated in 4-H and the Fair.
