Story
Mary Sanford was a defining voice in local news, serving as editor of the Oceana Herald Journal from 1993 until her retirement in 2011. A Hart native, she approached journalism with passion and integrity, transforming the paper from traditional to digital formats. After her passing in 2013 following a battle with cancer, her husband John and sons Graham and Henry established the Mary R. Sanford Memorial Fund at the Community Foundation for Oceana County to honor her legacy. The fund supports organizations she cherished, including Pentwater Public Schools and the Crystal Valley Care Fund, continuing her impact on the community.
