Story
If asked to describe Larry Wagner in a single word, ‘mentor’ would be the popular answer. Larry founded Appletree Automotive at Silver Lake after a 17-year career as Hart High School’s shop teacher. Chad Coker, one of Larry’s protégés and later successor at Appletree Automotive, established the Larry Wagner Appletree Automotive Skilled Trades Scholarship in honor of Larry’s impact on several generations of tradespeople. In partnership with the Wagner family, Chad hopes to continue Larry’s legacy of supporting the young men and women in our community who will become our next generation of skilled tradespeople. In providing its third award in 2023, Larry’s scholarship has taken on a reflective tone after his passing in September. “Those of you that knew him on any level understand what a rare type of person he is,” Chad shared. “Anytime there is a mention of his name, there is nothing but positive comments.”
