Story
The next great discovery can come from anywhere and anyone, a belief that fuels Mary Ellen Hedye and Gordon Parrington’s dedication to supporting Shelby graduates’ exploration of STEM (science, technology, engineering, and math). After moving to Oceana County in 1988, Mary Ellen and Gordon found a second home in Shelby. Mary Ellen is a former Ford Executive and chemist, specializing in research and product development. Gordon shares her love of exploration and STEM, as he dedicated his career to teaching Westland Public School students biology. Their unique experiences with education and research promoted their creation of the Parrington/Heyde Scholarship – a merit-based scholarship supporting Shelby students from all backgrounds. In helping support their pursuit of STEM-based careers Mary Ellen and Gordon hope to inspire tomorrow’s innovators.
