Story
Dr. Barry Ross is the former Assistant Conductor of the Kalamazoo Symphony and Professor of Music Emeritus from Kalamazoo College. For 32 years he performed as Concertmaster of the Kalamazoo Symphony Orchestra. He founded and directed the Kalamazoo College and Community Orchestra, and the Family Discovery Concert Series at the Kalamazoo Symphony. During his 40 years in Michigan, Barry has appeared as conductor, concert-master and solo violinist throughout the Midwest and beyond. His crossover into jazz and pop, though unusual on the violin, is a natural outgrowth of his desire to master multiple musical forms and perform with a variety of artists. For 16 years, Barry not only performed at Little Point Sable Association’s Annual Arts Concerts, but identified, recruited, and organized the performers… a Little Point Sable version of a 'concertmaster.' In honoring his impact on growing the Little Point Sable Arts for Oceana County Fund, the Association established the Barry Ross Scholarship to continue his legacy of supporting budding musicians and artisans.
