Story
Helen Hutt was born in Manistee but raised and educated in southeastern Michigan. Education was highly valued within her family, as her mother was an educator. Helen shared this passion for learning, often commuting great distances to attend school. She earned both her teaching degree and a master’s degree from the University of Michigan. Helen taught throughout central Michigan, including Iowa, Battle Creek, and Grand Rapids. She served as the president of the Grand Rapid’s Teachers Association. Helen’s curiosity for life spanned outside of the classroom as well, as Helen was an avid traveler with her husband, Lloyd. Her award is given to students graduating from any Oceana County High School, as she hoped to inspire students to continue their education and quest for knowledge.
