The Student Obstacle Support (SOS) Fund started as part of the Jackson Legacy Scholarship Fund as a way to help recipients have access to up to $500 each year they are awarded a JCF scholarship for things that impede their ability to persist in their postsecondary education. After utilizing part of the annual spendable of the Jackson Legacy Endowment Fund to budget for SOS awards for several years, the idea resonated with new scholarship donors, and they were willing to contribute to having all scholarship recipients have the ability to apply if an obstacle was presented. Thus, the formal SOS Fund grew in 2025.
