Sugar Creek Elementary School Endowment
Purpose
Sugar Creek Elementary School, an award-winning elementary in Verona, Wisconsin, is one of the largest elementary schools in Dane County. Our school’s mission is that “Each student will acquire the knowledge and skills necessary to achieve their personal goals, thrive in a diverse global society, and lead a healthy, self-fulfilling life.” We have a long and highly successful record as a school that promotes the health and wellness of all students. We were the first school in the area to: give all students free breakfast daily, to have an all-school Biking Unit, to have an all-school Snowshoeing Unit, and to have a Health and Wellness committee comprised of students, staff, and families. Each year we hold all-family walks and a Fun Run which build community and promote healthy living. We partner with local dental clinics, opticians, therapists, and medical facilities to meet the needs of our students on-site. In addition, we have created a weekly backpack food program to support our families in need. We have partnered for many years with local agencies and organizations to promote literacy. We hold several events a year in which every student receives free, new books, in Spanish or English, and we host an annual family night called our Love to Read Night. Our school has started several Free Little Libraries to provide free books to all, and students LOVE to visit these! In addition, a recent grant helped us create a Birthday Book program, allowing students to receive the gift of a free book on their special day. We are a diverse school, with over 150 English Language Learners and dozens of staff from other nations and territories and are the home of a large Two Way Immersion Spanish / English immersion program. We are dedicated to making our school a bilingual and bicultural home for all, and these efforts include annual family events such as our Hispanic Heritage Night. Any funds received will have a huge impact on children in our community!
