Purpose
This scholarship shall support the charitable purpose of Leadership & Education. In 2024, the newly reinstated Tunica Woman's Club (est. 1914 aka TWC) chose to take some of their existing funds to establish a memorial endowment to memorialize their long-time president and devoted member Betty Jo Dulaney. The TWC Board wanted to ensure the continuation of support for young women in Tunica County through educational scholarships and leadership development opportunities. “The Tunica Woman’s Club has sponsored young women in Tunica County for programs like Girls State and HOBY since the mid-1980's, and awarded an educational scholarships throughout the years, this endowment will ensure that they continue to offer opportunities like these for young women in Tunica County for many years.” Kara Dulaney, TWC President-Elect/VP 2023-2025 The Tunica Woman’s Club Betty Jo Dulaney Memorial Scholarship honors long-time Tunica Woman’s Club member and Tunica County resident who was an active philanthropist and leader. Mrs. Dulaney was a selfless servant to her community, state, and nation. She served numerous times as the Tunica Woman’s Club President, 1982-84 GFWC-MFWC State President, and served as a member of the GFWC National Board. She exemplified the mission of the Tunica Woman’s Club through her dedicated volunteer service and passion for literacy education, with her presidential theme being “Unity in diversity through volunteer service” she encouraged others to do so as well. She was even invited to the White House where she shook hands with First Lady Nancy Reagan and was recognized for her trailblazing spirit.
