The Ella “Gwen” Collins Nursing Scholarship was established by Charles Collins and family in memory of Ella “Gwen” Collins. Mrs. Collins served as a government nurse during World War II where she provided nursing services at the Detroit Children’s Hospital, Ypsilanti State Hospital, and the Willow Run Industrial Plant. After the war, she was employed at Battle Creek’s Community Hospital until she retired from full-time nursing to raise her family. Mrs. Collins maintained her nursing license throughout her life. The Scholarship is awarded to Marshall High School graduating seniors, former graduates, or previous recipients enrolled in a school with an accredited nursing program.
