The Steve and Sheila Sachs Pursuit of Justice Fund
Fund Description
This fund honors the memory of Baltimore attorneys Steve and Sheila Sachs and their collective impact within the Baltimore and Maryland legal communities. Reflecting their commitment to mentoring young lawyers and the shared values of access to justice and public service, the fund will support law students pursuing public interest law. To launch this effort, we have established a permanent Sachs Summer Fellowship through the University of Maryland Francis King Carey School of Law's Maryland Public Interest Law Project (MPILP). In 2021, MPILP administered a total of $120,000 in summer grants to 26 law students who completed 10,000 hours of public interest legal work. This new Sachs Fellowship will provide a stipend to a first or second year Maryland law student to work in an unpaid public interest internship and will preference students who serve with any of the following organizations that were special to our parents: Office of the Maryland Attorney General, United States Attorney’s Office for the District of Maryland, Public Justice Center, FreeState Justice, and the Women’s Law Center of Maryland. Donors will receive additional details and periodic updates about how the funds will be distributed. For more information, contact donorservices@bcf.org. If you prefer to mail a check, please make it payable to the Baltimore Community Foundation (BCF), with “Steve and Sheila Sachs Fund” in the memo line and mailed to BCF at P.O. Box 37422, Baltimore, MD 21297-3422.
