Fund Description
The Dr. Fran Levin Bowman Memorial Dyslexia Fund was created to honor Dr. Bowman’s lifelong dedication on behalf of children and adults with language-based learning differences. Dr. Bowman dedicated her time, her knowledge, and her vision of what ‘could be’ to teaching thousands of tutors, teachers, and students through her Bowman Educational Services, Inc., which she opened in 1983, in Columbia, MD. Her business later expanded to Towson, MD, New York, Connecticut, and California. Additionally she created, solely or in partnership, Orton/Gillingham-based programs such as Orton-Gillingham “Plus,” the “OG Star" (used in 39 countries), and Modelosophy, which increased her impact multifold. Dr. Bowman loved people and loved education. She built networks of support for advancing knowledge in education, and in so doing connected a variety of professionals all dedicated to improving the lives of their students and clients. Dr. Bowman served on the Boards of Radcliffe Creek School in Chesterton, Cathedral of Mary Our Queen School in Baltimore, Bishop Walsh in Cumberland, Brown Memorial Church School in Bolton Hill, Friendship School in Eldersburg, Legacy School in Sykesville and Right to Read, Maryland. Dr. Fran Levin Bowman dedicated her life to empowering teachers and students. She was dearly loved and respected, and her dedication to improving education, educators, and the lives of children and adults with dyslexia will continue with your gift to this fund.
