Fund Description
The Arthur W. Elder, II Scholarship is established to honor the memory and spirit of a man who died young at heart. Arthur II passed away on December 17, 2009, after battling lung cancer even though he was not a smoker. Arthur was a renaissance man who was liked by everyone. He could strike up a conversation with anyone. He believed in the power of education and was a voracious reader. Arthur had a remarkable memory for trivia, sports facts, and could tell a story with the best of them. Arthur played baseball for his neighborhood, Red Wing Baseball Athletic League, listened to music with the Left Bank Jazz Society, and as a hometown sports enthusiast, rooted for the Orioles and Ravens whether they were winning or losing. This scholarship honors his belief in education. The first scholarship was awarded in 2011 to a Baltimore City student from his Alma Mater, Lake Clifton High School, now named Heritage High School.
