The Bernadette Reider Scholarship Fund was established December 21, 2001 as a scholarship fund to make a lasting difference in our community. Colonel Bernadette Reider established the Bernadette Reider Scholarship Fund in 2002. Born in Little Lake and raised in Marquette, Reider began her U.S. Army Nurse Corps career in March 1945 when she answered the military's demand for medical personnel near the end of World War II. She served in the Korean War for four months in the front lines during the heaviest fighting of the war. A generation later, she was again at the front, this time in Viet Nam where she was stationed in the city of Pleiku where the Army's regional medical facility was located. Reider has been awarded numerous medals including the Legion of Merit, the Bronze Star and the Army Commendation Medal with one oak leaf cluster. At the time of her retirement, she was the Chief Operating Room Nurse at Brooke Army Medical Center at Fort Sam Houston, Texas.
