Purpose
The Bernhardt L. Pederson Scholarship Fund honors a man whose kindness, humility, and gentle spirit left a lasting impression on all who knew him. A dedicated scholar, he earned a degree in Civil Engineering on academic scholarship at the University of Michigan. He then pursued his passion for medicine at the University of Michigan Medical School where he graduated cum laude. His commitment to excellence extended beyond the classroom – he was also a three-time varsity letter winner in football at the U of M and played in the famous “Snow Bowl” game against Ohio State in 1950 and was a member of the Wolverines victorious 1951 Rose Bowl team. Established in tribute to his lifelong love of learning, this scholarship celebrates his remarkable legacy and supports future graduates from the Marquette public school system so that they may pursue their studies at the University of Michigan- an institution Ben cherished.
