Each year, the fund supports weekend food backpack programs throughout Sanilac County, providing students in need with a backpack of food every weekend during the school year, helping bridge the gap when school meals are unavailable. Each backpack, assembled locally by volunteers, costs approximately $100 per student per year. This effort is made possible through the collaboration of area schools, churches, organizations, businesses, and caring individuals working together to nourish local children and strengthen our community. This early investment established a permanent resource dedicated to youth-led grantmaking and positioned students as active partners in building a stronger community. Today, YAC is composed of student leaders representing all seven Sanilac County high schools who are committed to making a difference through grantmaking, volunteerism, and raising awareness around important local issues. The fund continues to empower these young leaders to develop lifelong skills in leadership and service while creating meaningful, lasting impact throughout Sanilac County.
