This fund is a vehicle providing Summers County teachers with mini-grants for materials and programs that will supplement their standard class routine. Mini-grants are awarded annually in October. Jay Word, Beckley businessman, and his mother Sally Word, created this fund originally to focus on improving student academic achievement. The Word family roots are in Pence Springs.
