GEORGE BEETCHENOW MEMORIAL SCHOLARSHIP FUND

George Beetchenow was an educator and a coach in the Yakima Valley from 1950 until 1980. He taught advanced math and sciences. He coached football, basketball, and track at Moxee, Eisenhower, and A.C. Davis high schools. While he enjoyed it all, his true passion was for the throwing events, the shot put, the discus, and the javelin. George never threw any of the implements in competition- his understanding of the events, and more importantly his understanding of people, allowed him to guide many young athletes to state championships, state records, and school records. More importantly, he helped young athletes instill pride in their personal growth and accomplishments. To honor his memory, his children started a scholarship in his name. Each year they grant out $500 scholarships to seniors at East Valley, Eisenhower, Davis, West Valley, Selah or LaSalle High School; who have a 2.5 GPA or higher; and who have competed in one of the throwing events for two seasons. To learn how to apply for the scholarship, email info@yakimavalleycf.org.
