For years, the Hastings Skatepark has been a place where young people who didn’t feel connected to traditional athletics finally found a home. It has offered a sense of belonging, encouragement, and a safe alternative to skating in parking lots or on sidewalks — a true “third place” where youth are welcomed, not pushed away.
This park has thrived because our community showed up. Volunteers have spent countless Wednesday nights mentoring riders, sharing meals, and building positive relationships. Their X Games–style annual competition became a cherished tradition, celebrating the creativity and athleticism of Hastings youth. These same volunteers have kept aging equipment usable far beyond its life span. This is not just a skatepark, it’s a community‑supported space people have fought to preserve.
Now, the Hastings Rotary Club is leading the effort to revitalize and expand the park so it can continue serving the next generation. This project reflects a shared belief: when we invest in young people, we strengthen our entire community.
