Purpose
To provide educational scholarships for students who are accepted into and attend an accredited educational organization who meet the following criteria: 1) Are a resident of the State of Indiana; 2) Preference shall be given to residents of Ripley and Franklin Counties; 3) Are a graduating senior of Batesville High School, Indiana; 4) Preference shall be given to student pursuing a career in the trades or a commercial driver's license. This scholarship is dedicated in loving memory of Tom Volk by his family. Tom was a 1987 graduate of Batesville High School, then served as a honorable military sailor for 4 years in the Navy. He was also a highly dedicated truck driver for Hill-Rom and Batesville Casket/Logistics for many years, receiving several prestigious safety awards, including their million-mile award totaling 3.4 million safe, accident free miles! He was known for his hard work ethic, loyalty to his job and immeasurable generosity to those around him. His passion for the outdoors was quite evident, especially for hunting, fishing, preservation of natural resources and growing unique trees to benefit Indiana. Also, he loved to teach anyone about gun safety, wildlife and nature. His ability to be a father figure to those that needed him most, was a modest gift he had. Unfortunately, he passed away unexpectedly, just shortly before his retirement. It is our honor to dedicate this scholarship to someone that shadows his traits of hard work ethic and is pursuing a trade school profession or a commercial drivers license. We know he would be honored to share in the fruits of his labor with a well deserving student of this community.
