Jerald & Helen Jahnigen Memorial Scholarship #1013
Purpose
Scholarships for students who are accepted into and attend an accredited educational organization. Eligibility requirements are: Indiana Resident, be a graduating senior, preference for applicants with a familial connection to the Leora Weare American Legion Post 173 in Versailles IN; pursuing either a 2-year or 4-year degree, must write an essay on a selected question as selected by the Community Foundation. Butch was a 1948 graduate of Versailles high School. He was a veteran of the Korean War, entering the Army on March 28, 1952 and rising to the rank of Corporal. Butch was discharged from the military on March 1, 1954 and for service to his country he received the Korean Service Medal with three Bronze Stars, the United Nations Service Medal, and the National Defense Service Medal.
