Dr. Grant and Debbie Uba Fund

Dr. Grant & Debbie Uba believe that young people can do great things when given the opportunity, so with their help, the Boys & Girls Club of Long Beach established the Dr. Grant and Debbie Uba Fund to support the Boys & Girls Clubs of Long Beach. Thanks to this fund, Boys & Girls Clubs of Long Beach are able to award some of their exceptional teens with scholarships to college. For 80 years, Boys & Girls Clubs of Long Beach has been providing the most affordable and high-quality after-school programs to the most at-risk and vulnerable youth in Long Beach. With 11 Clubs throughout Long Beach, they give over 3,000 Club members a safe place to connect with role models and make friends, a quiet place to do homework, and a family-orientated place to enjoy a warm, nutritious meal (which for some, is the only food they will eat that evening). Programs are designed to help Club members become great leaders, aspire to attend college, find a great career, and live a healthy, confident, and active life. Your donation to the Dr. Grant & Debbie Uba Fund helps the Boys & Girls Clubs of Long Beach close the opportunity gap, fill the mentorship void, keep kids safe, and help kids achieve their dreams.

LBCF Community Impact Fund

Long Beach is a special place … it’s a cosmopolitan city, a thriving port, a hub for arts and culture, a venue for sports, recreation, and entertainment, an education center, a beachfront paradise, and a unique array of diverse neighborhoods. Your gift to the Long Beach Community Foundation Impact Fund is an efficient, caring, responsible way to provide for the future of this great community. Our community needs are constantly changing and the LBCF Impact Fund changes to meet those needs. Since its inception, the Foundation’s discretionary grants have included the following areas: Arts and Culture, Community Improvement and Development, Diversity and Human Relations, Economic Self-Sufficiency, Gang Prevention and Intervention, Health and Human Services, Literacy and Literacy Training, Parenting Education, Services to Senior Citizens, Violence Prevention, Youth Programs, and Housing and Homelessness. Each year, the Foundation’s Board of Directors determines suitable areas of focus for discretionary grantmaking from the Impact Fund. The Board searches for nonprofit organizations that can provide services to meet critical, new, and emerging community needs. No attempt is made to replace ongoing public support for successful organizations. Instead, grants help local nonprofits leverage their resources in a way that improves the conditions of our great city. As the corpus grows, more needs will be met.

Long Beach Day Nursery-Building Blocks Fund

Long Beach Day Nursery (LBDN) envisions a future when all children are able to realize their full potential as educated, well-adjusted, and productive adults. Research tells us that a quality early start is a key component to fostering this later life success. Our mission — to provide high-quality early care and education for young children of working parents — has remained virtually unchanged for more than a century of service. Over the years, our mission has become all the more vital to the community as the number of single-parent families and dual-parent working families grows. Currently, Long Beach Day Nursery serves approximately 325 children each year, and over 60% of the children served come from low-income families. The care and education children receive at LBDN are of the highest quality. Our high-quality programming includes nationally accredited child care centers (the only accredited centers in the city of Long Beach open to the public), early literacy programming, early math, and science education, nutrition and healthy connections programs, physical education, parent engagement, and training, early intervention, Stepping Stones to Success Scholarships, low teacher-child ratios, and continuity of care practices that keep children with the same teacher for up to 3 years of schooling. We pride ourselves not only on the academics children learn at LBDN but also on the social-emotional skills they develop through our warm, inviting, and collaborative environment. Our goal is that each child we serve will leave us carefully prepared to succeed in kindergarten and beyond.
