Algalita Endowment Fund

Algalita is internationally known as the organization that started the movement to end plastic pollution. Over the span of 25 years, this small grassroots organization has sparked local and statewide legislation by showing policymakers how plastics build up in our ocean ecosystems. Algalita revolutionized the plastic pollution conversation by building a web of connections between researchers, activists, educators, and young people across the globe. While the organization continues to monitor plastic accumulation in the ocean, its main focus is to fundamentally shift our way of thinking on land. Algalita has dedicated its work to usher in the next generation of critical thinkers capable of advancing the most responsible solutions to plastic pollution. They offer a suite of experience-based programs that reach thousands of teachers and students every year. This endowed fund supports Algalita’s general operations.

Angels Gate Reserve Fund

Angels Gate Cultural Center (AGCC) is a place that unites art, community, and culture through creative discovery, exploration, and enlightenment. Our mission is to provide space for artists to work and to engage the community through arts education, exhibitions of contemporary art, and cultural events. We serve over 4000 elementary school students in Long Beach and LAUSD with arts residencies each year. The Center emerged from a group of San Pedro artists in the 1970s that created artist studios and exhibition space within the 1940’s era Army barracks of Angels Gate Park. The core of AGCC arts education programming is the Artists-in-Classroom (AIC) program, which places professional artists in classrooms to provide an enriched skill-based arts education. Angels Gate Cultural Center is home to four galleries, focused on showcasing new works by contemporary artists. AGCC pursues opportunities to hire outside curators and commission artists in its effort to support the vibrancy of Southern California’s art landscape.

Arts Council for Long Beach Fund

Donate now to the “Creative Communities Arts Fund” and support our microgrant program. Microgrants are awarded monthly and available year-round until funding is depleted for the fiscal year. Projects must be free, open to the public, and benefit Long Beach residents. Worthy projects will support community representation and cultural respect, encourage cultural diversity, and/or enhance underserved communities, neighborhoods, or populations of Long Beach. Artists who are looking for professional development to enhance an organization’s operations or their ability to serve the Long Beach residents may also apply for a microgrant. Since the Arts Council for Long Beach was founded 40 years ago – on September 22, 1976 – the nonprofit organization has funded hundreds of artists, organizations, and education programs. It has advocated for increased arts funding in addition to promoting the city’s arts and culture. Currently, we deliver arts education to thousands of schoolchildren, place college students in internships, connect artists to opportunities within and outside of Long Beach, convene discussions and celebrations about art, and much more. Since 2000, the Arts Council has granted more than $13 million to Long Beach artists, organizations, and community projects, and through arts education programs, reached more than 36,000 Long Beach Unified School District youth. Serving Long Beach’s flourishing arts and cultural scene is a tall – and fun – order, therefore, we are committed to growing community partnerships by increasing our microgrant funding.

Dr. Grant and Debbie Uba Fund

Dr. Grant & Debbie Uba believe that young people can do great things when given the opportunity, so with their help, the Boys & Girls Club of Long Beach established the Dr. Grant and Debbie Uba Fund to support the Boys & Girls Clubs of Long Beach. Thanks to this fund, Boys & Girls Clubs of Long Beach are able to award some of their exceptional teens with scholarships to college. For 80 years, Boys & Girls Clubs of Long Beach has been providing the most affordable and high-quality after-school programs to the most at-risk and vulnerable youth in Long Beach. With 11 Clubs throughout Long Beach, they give over 3,000 Club members a safe place to connect with role models and make friends, a quiet place to do homework, and a family-orientated place to enjoy a warm, nutritious meal (which for some, is the only food they will eat that evening). Programs are designed to help Club members become great leaders, aspire to attend college, find a great career, and live a healthy, confident, and active life.
