Allen County 9/11 Memorial Foundation Fund

In the timeline of history, there are few dates with more meaning to Americans than September 11, 2001. That was the day that terrorists killed 2,977 innocent people at the Twin Towers of the World Trade Center, at the Pentagon, and in Shanksville, Pennsylvania. As time marches forward, the events and consequences of that day cannot be allowed to fade into obscurity. This is a task that we will address with a new and significant educational project and monument to heroes, heroism, and patriotism. In addition to the imposing structure itself, we will work with school systems to keep the facts of 9/11 for students of today who were not even born in 2001. The Fund aims to provide educational programming related to the events of September 11, 2001; to provide community outreach related to the Memorial and its education programming; the construction and maintenance of a permanent memorial located at 2526 Fort Amanda Road, Lima.

The Block Grant Challenge

The Block Grant Challenge is new approach to sustainable neighborhood revitalization. It uses private sector "seed money" to unlock existing sidelined capital for residential property owners (both owner-occupied and rental). Based upon a successful initiative in Oswego, New York, the strategy is simple: get property owners to invest in the physical improvement of their properties by demonstrating that there are sound financial reasons to do so. Successful neighborhood applicants will meet the following minimum criteria: At least five properties must participate in any given block, grant funds used for facade (exterior) improvements only, maximum award is $1,000 per property (dollar-for-dollar match). The Competitive grant process is open to all neighborhoods inside the City of Lima.
