Monica was only 28 years old when she died; but in her life she touched many people. To honor her memory and to celebrate her life as an outstanding human being and an inspirational teacher, this scholarship was created for high school seniors who plan to major in education to become a teacher. Awards are given to students at Lima Senior High School (from which she graduated) and Shawnee High School (where she taught).
