Purpose
The Health and Human Services Fund (HHS Fund) empowers the Long Beach Department of Health and Human Services (Health Department) to advance its mission to improve the quality of life by promoting a safe and healthy community in which to LIVE, WORK, LEARN and PLAY. Through community-centered initiatives, the HHS Fund provides critical, direct support to community members, strengthens local nonprofits, and invests in the public health workforce that serves Long Beach every day. Donations to the HHS Fund directly support three vital initiatives: • Direct client support to address urgent and essential needs of community members served by the Health Department, including access to nutritious groceries, transportation vouchers for medical appointments, and other important resources. • Workforce enhancements that equip Health Department staff with supplemental tools, materials, and professional development opportunities when all other funding sources have been exhausted. This support enables staff to respond to emerging needs and enhances their capacity to serve the community more effectively. • Mini grants for local nonprofit organizations to promote staff wellness, professional development, and capacity-building, helping community-based organizations remain resilient and impactful. Together, these investments ensure that individuals, families, and organizations across Long Beach have the support they need to thrive.
